Aquatics Requirements

For those of you looking to earn your Aquatics 1st and/or 2nd class requirements -or- just interested in learning more about lifesaving and water safety, this is the event for you!
During this session, we will complete the following:

Second Class: Please review/study your Scout book prior to attending.
– 5b. Demonstrate your ability to pass the BSA beginner test. (not needed if you completed the Swim Test on May 8th)
– 5c. Demonstrate water rescue methods by reaching with your arm or leg, by reaching with a suitable object, and by throwing lines and objects.
– 5d. Explain why swimming rescues should not be attempted when a reaching or throwing rescue is possible. Explain why and how a rescue swimmer should avoid contact with the victim.

First Class: Please review/study your Scout book prior to attending.
– 6a. Successfully complete the BSA swimmer test. (not needed if completed on May 8th)
– 6e. With a helper and a practice victim, show a line rescue both as tender and as rescuer. (The practice victim should be approximately 30 feet from shore in deep water).

We will use any extra time for “makeup” Swim Classification swim tests, for those unable to attend May 8th.

Test Parameters:
“SWIMMER Category” Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and begin swimming. Swim 75 yards in a STRONG MANNER using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be swum continuously and include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating 2min. You will not be able to touch the bottoms or sides of the pool, while completing the test.
