Saturday – Sunday, Apr 13-14, 2013 We had a small group taking advantage of this beautiful landscape. We drove down for more than 2 hrs from Foster City on Saturday afternoon. After checking in and setting up our camp, we drove to the Bear Gulch trail head and took a short hike up through the caves. That night, the boys cooked burgers and then made a nice fire with just ONE match. We made peach cobbler in the dutch oven and then packed our food in the bear boxes. Good thing, too! Before we went to bed, a huge raccoon waltzed right through camp and refused to flee when we yelled at it. I’m sure it would have loved to have a go at our uncooked breakfast… In the morning, after a breakfast of scrambled eggs, we packed up and hit the trail. We went up the east side of the mountain in the morning and still didn’t reach the peak until almost 1pm. After a trail lunch, we descended the west side, caught part of a ranger led tour and went through the pitch black balconies caves. If you’ve never been to Pinnacles, you HAVE to come next year just to see the caves! After that, it was another mile or so back to the car and homeward bound.
