This is the next-to-final call for Scout participants in the upcoming 50 mile backpacking trip in the stunning Desolation Wilderness in the Sierras, near Lake Tahoe. We have a total of 12 spots available on our permit which allows for up to eight Scouts. We currently have five Scouts signed up so it would be great to get three more.

If you’ve completed a 20 miler with the troop (like the Point Reyes trip in December last year) and want to take part in the ‘50’ please sign up ASAP!

We’ll be leaving early on the morning of Thursday August 2 and hiking to our first night’s camp at Rockbound Lake. We’ll be covering 10-12 miles each day until pick up on Monday August 6. We’ll be back Monday evening (maybe late).

I’m also looking for a Scout to lead the trip – maybe someone who hasn’t led a major trip before so that you can get some experience with support from our older Scouts?

Given that quite a few eligible Scouts are currently away at Wente I’ll hold sign-ups open until next Wednesday (July 18) but, if you’re not at Wente and want to go, the sooner you sign up, the better.
