We’ll be going to the El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve off of Skyline Blvd. This will be a Map & Compass hike of at least five miles. Scouts who need to fulfill that requirement for Second Class rank, and/or who want to fulfill the Life requirement #6 (teach using the EDGE method) should come on this hike.As usual for a day hike, you’ll need your Ten Essentials (especially including a compass and water to drink). We’ll use trails shown on the El Corte de Madera Creek Map.
Eat a good breakfast and bring snacks to eat on the trail. We may stop at In-N-Out on the way home. Due to the teaching of map and compass skills the hiking will go slower than usual, so I estimate up to four hours on the trail plus travel time there and back (plus burgers, if desired).
Let’s meet at the Foster City Library at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning so we can return in the early afternoon. There is a Patrol Leaders Council meeting that night (at 7:00 pm at the Rec Center), so they’ll want to be home early enough to shower and prepare.
See you there!
