Trip Summary:

Both days we met at the recreation center under foggy, drizzly skies.  We met with Mr. Jeff  Brown from the Foster City Rotary Club.  Mr. Brown instructed us in the We went to the recreation center and helped prune the roses.  We then broke into groups and headed out.

Day One had all of us stripping leaves off the rose bushes.  That’s when we learned that some of the rose bushes calling Leo J. Ryan home were very old and had learned how to fight back when the annual leave stripping was upon them.  Many scouts were scratched and poked and some would even say impaled by the thorns that in some case measured up to 1 inch long!

For the second day, while we completed  our task by helping to cut the pruned rose buses down to size as to maximize the amount that could fit into the recycle bins.  We also had to be sure that the leaves we had previously stripped were also disposed of properly.  Mr. Brown told us if the leaves were left on the ground around the rose bushes a fungus would grow and could potentially kill the rose bushes.

In the end, with the sweat on our brows and a smile on our faces for a job well done, we all walked over to Jamba Juice where we relaxed and celebrated a job well done.
