Saturday Dec 8, 2012 Our trips to the “Tank Museum” are always among the most popular events. This is the largest privately-owned collection of military vehicles—tanks, armored troop carriers, mobile artillery, etc.—in the world. Some articles date back as far as World War I.
The Scouts (and parents) love this trip because not only do they get to see all of this cool stuff, but they actually get to handle or climb into some of it! It’s not every day that you get to hold a .50 caliber machine gun, aim an anti-aircraft gun, see a SCUD missile or hold a bazooka, but at the MVTF you might.
The MVTF is currently forming a Venture crew (Crew 551, currently the ONLY tank Crew in the world), so boys aged 14 through 20 can have a chance to learn the many skills necessary to actually help restore these fascinating vehicles. Boys under age 18 can be simultaneously registered in a Boy Scout troop as well as one or more Venture crews.
