Sunday Oct 28, 2012 Every other month Troop 175 sets out to conquer another peak—or peaks—in the San Francisco Bay Area Council’s Rim of the Bay series. The peaks in this series are Mt. Diablo, Pinnacles, Mission Peak, Mt. Helena, Mt. Wittenberg and, of course, Mt. Tamalpais.
The day started out a little foggy and overcast, and there was some concern that visibility from the peak might be a problem. However, as you’ll see from the gallery, the marine layer burned off and the views were spectacular. We were able to see much of the Bay from San Francisco to Richmond, including Alcatraz Island, the Bay Bridge, and the famous San Quentin prison.
This 10-mile hike was a great trip, with some parts easy and others more challenging. There was even a snack bar at the visitors center a mile or two from the East Peak. We also visited the Middle Peak (because it’s there!) and saw a major telecommunications installation there.
As is our custom, we made a stop at In N Out on the way home where the boys enjoy ordering off the “secret” menu for those in the know. Be sure to join us on our next hike!
