The annual Whitewater Campout took place from June 6th to 8th, 2025. Participants in Class 4 rafted on the Middle Fork of the American River, while Class 3 participants rafted on the South Fork. Scouts in Class 4 departed from the library at various times on Friday, June 6th, and stopped for dinner along the way. Upon their arrival at the campsite, they set up their tents for the night and hung around the campground. Class 4 scouts had an early start on Saturday morning, needing to leave the campsite at 7 AM, so breakfast was quick and simple. The van ride to the river took over an hour, and after a brief safety demonstration, the Scouts entered the water. Class 3 scouts arrived at the campsite later in the morning. After navigating a few rapids, including Tunnel Shoot, which was a favorite among many of the scouts, Class 4 stopped for lunch off the river, enjoying a deli spread. About an hour later, they returned to the campsite, where they participated in games such as cards and Spike Ball. Later in the evening, they began preparing dinner and dessert. To end the night, all Scouts and adults took part in skits as part of the campfire program. On Sunday morning, Scouts packed up their tents and gear and cooked breakfast. After breakfast, Scouts took part in Camp Sweep and Roses and Thorns. Everyone stopped at In-N-Out on the way back to the library.
During the three days, the weather was hot and humid, creating ideal conditions for rafting on the river’s cool waters. The afternoons and evenings were particularly warm, while the nights and mornings remained similarly, relatively warm.
