A world of adventure is waiting for you with Scouts BSA Troop 175: White water rafting, backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing… all things the troop does each year; and we’re always looking for new things to do. As well as all this, you’ll learn new skills like firelighting and first aid, cooking and campcraft, and you’ll get to understand more about the world we live in, it’s nature, and yourself. You’ll spend time helping other people by taking part in service projects near and far.
Most important of all, you’ll have fun!
Being a Scout is all these things and more, and you’ll do it all with a ‘Patrol’ of friends, and make new friends along the way who will last a lifetime.
As you’ll see, being in the troop is very different to Cub Scouts. In Scouts BSA the planning and execution of the meetings and activities is the responsibility of the Scouts themselves, not the adults – though we’re always here for advice when needed and to make sure everyone stays safe. You shouldn’t feel overwhelmed though: as a New Scout Patrol you’ll have an older Scout called a ‘Troop Guide’ who will work with you to understand what to do in Troop meetings and also to help you as you advance to First Class rank.
By the way, if your parents enjoy the outdoors and think the activities we do look interesting, they are welcome to join the ‘Geezer Patrol’ for a trip and experience the adventure for themselves. We are always looking for adults to help out on trips and, maybe one day, volunteer as an adult leader.
If you have any questions at all, ask your Patrol Leader; if they don’t know, ask your Troop Guide; if they don’t know, ask your Senior Patrol Leader; if they don’t know, ask your patrol’s Assistant Scoutmaster and if they don’t know, ask me!
Welcome to Scouts BSA!

2025: A Year Worth Remembering
Looking back on 2025, Troop 175 has much to be proud of. Throughout the year, Scouts demonstrated a commitment to the troop through their participation in adventure, service, leadership, and advancement activities.
Over the course of the year, Scouts contributed 1,630 hours of community service to help and give back to our community. The troop spent 619 nights camping and hiked a total of 1,862.82 miles. Some of the Scouts’ most memorable trips included a week at Wente and a week-long, 50-mile backpacking trip that covered 54 miles and gained more than 7,500 feet of elevation.
Scouts’ progress and rank advancements were outstanding in 2025, with a total of 77 rank advancements. These ranks consisted of:
- 15 Scout
- 12 Tenderfoot
- 12 Second Class
- 14 First Class
- 9 Star
- 8 Life
- 7 Scouts earning the rank of Eagle (the highest rank in Scouting)
In addition, Scouts earned 292 merit badges throughout the year. Leadership was fantastic, with 43 Scouts completing Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST), helping prepare them to lead and support the troop. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of the Scouts, the support of their families, and the commitment of the adult leaders in our troop.
Looking ahead to 2026, there is much to be excited about. Troop 175 will celebrate its 60th anniversary since it was founded in 1966. As part of America’s 250th birthday, the troop will participate in the Service 250 Initiative, committing to at least 250 hours of service with a kickoff event on February 7. A full calendar of camping, hiking, and high adventure activities is planned, including old and new activities. Older Scouts can take part in a high adventure trip to Alaska from July 18 to 26, 2026. Another exciting event is the annual Court of Honor, which will be held on Saturday, May 30, and will include a family potluck.
As Troop 175 moves into 2026, the achievements of 2025 stand as an example of what makes the troop special. Scouts demonstrated commitment through participation, service to the community, adventure, and Scout-led leadership with the help of our adult leaders. Thanks to the dedication of Scouts, families, and adult leaders. The troop achieved so much last year, and we look ahead to another exciting year!
