The 10 Essentials are a set of items that any camper or hiker should have, due to their necessity in unplanned events, such as getting lost or facing an emergency.
The 10 Essentials are:

- A First Aid Kit, for both minor and major injuries. Bringing one on campouts can help both yourself and fellow Scouts as you encounter minor scrapes and scratches, or even major injuries.
- A Pocketknife is used to cut rope, prepare food, whittle, and open packages. It is very handy in many situations.
- Extra Clothing is very useful to ensure safety, comfort, and preparedness in scouting activities. It prevents hypothermia, helps against rapid weather changes, and is a useful dry clothing option.
- Rain Gear protects scouts from wet weather and hypothermia
- A Water bottle is very important, providing a refillable supply of water. It helps maintain hydration and prevent heat exhaustion or even heat stroke.
- A Flashlight is used to help scouts see in the dark, navigate campsites at night, and signal for help. It also helps to have a headlight, as it is easier to do tasks without carrying a light.
- Trail food provides quick, nutritional meals without requiring full cooking setups. It gives a boost of energy, and is especially useful on long hikes and campouts.
- Matches and fire starters are used to safely and efficiently light campfires, stoves, and lanterns. It is useful in cold, wet temperatures, providing warmth and cooking heat.
- Sun protection helps prevent sunburn, skin damage, and heat-related illnesses during outdoor activities. Sun protection includes physical barriers, clothing, and skin protection.
- A Map and Compass are important to determine direction, locate positions, and plan routes without a GPS. It is helpful for orienteering and land navigation.
