It’s more than a 3hr drive so the plan is to drive up Friday and camp Friday night at a National Forest campground picking up the canoes in Arnold along the way. Then we’ll be able to get an early start on Saturday and canoe to a wilderness location to camp. We’ll spend Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning exploring the lakes by canoe and may get to experience portaging canoes between the lakes. We’ll have a good campfire on Saturday night and enjoy the stars. E.g. sandwiches.–Since this is a wilderness trip, we’ll be practicing pack-it-in, pack-it-out. Leave No Trace.–Scouts will need to prepare as if this is a cold weather backpacking trip with close attention to minimizing gear as there will be limited space in the boats. Because this is a water trip, gear that needs to stay dry must be in waterproof bags. Packing lists and Ten Essentials lists can be found on the troop website, t175.com.–Scouts must have passed the BSA swim test within the last year.–Cost will be approximately $150 per scout to cover kayak rental and campsite. Food extra, usually ~$20.–Those going on the Alaska High Adventure Trip are strongly advised to come on this trip to test your gear, gain some paddling experience and prepare for Alaska.
